On the contrary, Philippine literature is composed of 5 different literacy periods. First, the pre-Spanish period has a characteristic which are chants, legends, folk tales, epics, and folk songs. Second, the Spanish period from 1521 to 1971- was composed of different features, namely: Spanish influences on Philippine literature, Folk songs, and recreational plays. The third was the period of enlightenment from 1872 until 1896 - this period has contrasting attributes, specifically, the propaganda movement. Fourth is the American regime from 1898 to 1944, the language used in this period was Spanish, Tagalog, and different dialects of other regions. Lastly, the Japanese period from 1941 to 1945 influenced the themes of a poem in the Philippines like nationalism, country, love, and life in barrios, religion, and the arts.
